New Member Program

The whirlwind of going through Recruitment, being extended a bid and then joining Kappa for life can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time. Kappa gives our new sisters a warm welcome by extending friendship and mutual support through our new member program.

The new member period is a time to learn about the Fraternity and educate women on the expectations and requirements of being a Kappa. Each new member is given a Big Sister to guide her through this new stage of her life. New members also attend a retreat to foster and develop the new friendships and connections within the chapter.

The Kappa Kappa Gamma new member period is designed to welcome, educate, and connect new members with our sisterhood in a supportive and positive environment. This experience focuses on learning our values, building friendships, and preparing members for lifelong involvement in the organization.

After accepting a bid, new members join their pledge class and are paired with a “Big” (mentor). Bid Day introduces members to the chapter through celebration, sisterhood activities, and traditions, helping everyone feel comfortable and included from the very beginning.

Over the next several weeks, members participate in structured weekly meetings led by the New Member Educator. These sessions help members understand what Kappa means and how to grow within the organization.

Over the next several weeks, members participate in structured weekly meetings led by the New Member Educator that help them understand what Kappa means and how to grow within the organization. During this time, they learn about Kappa’s values and history, chapter traditions and symbols, leadership opportunities, academic expectations, philanthropy and service initiatives, and ways to get involved both on campus and within the chapter. Throughout the new member experience, members are encouraged to engage in a variety of activities that foster connection, growth, and belonging within the chapter. New members participate in sisterhood events, philanthropy and service projects, social and campus activities, study hours and academic support, and small-group bonding with their pledge class and Bigs. These opportunities allow members to build meaningful friendships, strengthen their support system, and become confident, active members of the chapter community.

At the end of the new member period, members participate in Initiation, a meaningful ceremony where they officially become initiated sisters of Kappa Kappa Gamma. After Initiation, members may hold leadership positions, join committees, and fully participate in all chapter opportunities.

Kappa’s new member experience is designed to be positive, inclusive, and growth-focused — helping each member find her place, develop confidence, and build friendships that last far beyond college.
